| Hello, we are Jim, Christa, and Hawkhurst Bevington and we would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our site :o) We have been owned and loved by Akita's for 8yrs now, but have been in the breed for just over 9yrs. We started out with a companion male with a possibility of showing him if he matured nicely. Unfortunately our companion boy retained a testicle and was mono-orchid so we neutered him. My husband Jim who was my best friend at the time, ended up falling deeply in love with my male and decided he would like to get a female Akita of show quality so that we could explore the show world and see if we liked it. And that was where the bug caught us, we were fortunate that we had purchased from a respectable and reputable breeder. They helped us along the way and went to shows with us to help us learn. It was a great time with alot of fun, Thank you John and Carol. Between myself and my husband we have had several dog breeds along our way to finding the Akita. All family dogs that we grew up with and my family specifically raised Beagles, though we had a Black Lab,Rottie,Doberman,Spitz mix,Chow mix, and a German Shepherd mix. Many a stray dog found his way into our family, and that is how our dogs remain, Family. When they grow sick we worry and make sure they receive the care they need, we do all health clearances for the benefit of the breed but also for the benefit of our fur babies. When they leave us, a piece of us go's with them, but we are comforted by knowing we did right by them. We believe that it is unethical and detrimental to the Akita breed to not give them the best of care,to not do health clearances, to not study pedigrees for compatabilty and traits prior to breeding,(If a breeder) to not have a basic knowledge of genetics,to not have a grasp on the Akita Standard,to breed for profit and not the benefit of the breed,to not show your Akita's in conformation (How will you know that your breeding is in fact a dog bred towards the standard,if he holds up to what other breeders have bred?),to not understand the facts of this breed! The Akita is striking , majestic and beautiful to behold and we believe the Akita is a versatile breed. However, we also believe the Akita is not for the meek owner or for the first time dog owner(there are exceptions)and most assuredly not for an aggressive owner who looks at the Akita as a tool. With the proper love, training and guidance from his human family the Akita is a wonderful addition to the family. And to blame the breed for what is obviously human error and negligence is stupidity at its worst. The Akita is not an automatron, but an intelligent animal so do not be surprised if they think about something before doing what you ask of them. Early training and socialization continuing through out the Akita's life is a must(To be done by all family members, the Akita is not a shepherd you can not send him away for training and expect him to come back trained and ready to listen to you). After going through training with a stranger(which becomes the dogs Alpha)then, coming home to your owner which is now almost a stranger and let me assure you the dog will not see you as Alpha, would you listen to someone you barely know? Well, you might lol :o) but your Akita won't/wouldn't. They are a one person/family dog so you could expect them to look at you like your a Nut and Act up. And all that valuable bonding time that should have been spent with you was wasted on a person the dog will most likely not see again. Wow :o) what a long page huh?! It had to be said, and i could keep on going haha. Now all of that being said, we stay in touch with all of our puppy owners and offer help and advice along the way. We welcome any inquiries even if its just for information or even to just chat Akita's. :o) Our dogs are first and foremost our kids. They live inside with us in a 2100 sq ft home, and can be found with us almost everywhere we go. Even out in the yard helping us plant where you can see dirt fly and a dirty face come up with a grin that says "Look ma i dug this hole for you to put your flowers in!" Sometimes i think we have ground hogs and fish instead of dogs :O) We strive to produce Akita's with sound mind and bodies adhering to the standard. We do not and will not breed Akita's that have not passed any health clearances as we feel its unethical and detrimental to our wonderful breed. Thanks for listening to us rant and probably repeat ourselves but most of all, Thanks again and enjoy your visit! :o) |
